about

Another E.P. installment. Brake Lights. Written during sound checks, at practice spaces, the van, hotel rooms, in the studio, at friends houses, on planes, on buses (greyhounds), and late night trips to Waffle House. A bit different than most Scratch Track records. We’ve had a hard time conveying our sound in the studio. How do you make a record sound interesting with an acoustic guitar and beat boxing?? We keep getting closer with each try. With Brake Lights, we use every trick we have up our sleeve in the studio, without taking away from what we do as Scratch Track. The beats are there. The acoustic is there. The smooth vocals and harmonies are there. The fun. The attitude. The song writing. The tongue in cheek. The real. The weary. The dynamics. Your moms gonna love this album, just like she always has. Durrr. Come on, it’s an ST record!!

Track Name: Change It Up
V1
I see the people
Gatherin' round
Everybody's got their
Own type of boogie down
But now and then
I come around
I see them all
Listening to a same sound

Chorus
So I wanna change it up
Wanna change it out
Wanna stretch the mind
And lets begin the boogie down

V2
But it don't matter
Whatcha want
Its time to shake it off
And move it to the front
Can't be the only
one around
We all agree that
We need a new sound

chorus
Track Name: Kick It
Repeat

Verse 1
We used to kick it just around the way
we used to talk about it everyday
we never heard what the people would say
So we'd keep on keep on
(Then)u said u wanted to be alone
(And) it cut so deep down to the bone
U said I wouldn't make it out on my own
Baby, look at me I'm a rolling stone

Chorus
Aint no way babe
I'm coming back to you
Cause the way you treat me
Made me feel like a fool
Time moves on babe
You better move with it
Cause you'll wake up one day
With nothing but regret

Verse 2
Go ahead, and beg baby, gimme ur best
You've lied once, cried twice
and I'm not impressed
Just keep denying and telling your yourself
Or keep on keep on
A little pity is all you gonna get from me
And that's about all of the sympathy
This is the way its gonna have be
Maybe we can be cool eventually

Chorus

bridge
You can think what u want
Or believe that you're a star
You can think what u want
Or believe in who you are
Track Name: No
verse 1
There's a whole lot of road I've been trying to cross
There's a lot I've already done
Been around and I know some time's been lost
There's a lot that's already gone
And by no means do I have it figured out
Kinda hard to believe it all
But I have heard a few things along
The way
make me think I'm a know it all

prechorus
Oooh ooh, everyday its something like
Oooh, oooh, everyday its something else

Chorus
No u can't tell me
No u can't tell me
No u can't
Anything
I heard it all
Repeat
No u can't break it
No u can't break it
No u can't break
Any news to me
I heard it all

Verse 2
So I am what I am and that's alright
Workin hard to be a better man
Times get hard and times i tend to fail
Still workin hard to be a better man
Should you see me out along the way
Feel free to not acknowledge me
Cause the truth is whether u like it
Or not, I'm not the type to real care at all

chorus
Track Name: Running Away
Verse 1
I'm just a little unusual
A little unlikeable
A little unagreeable

So I hold back,
I give and I give too much
Disclose and disrobe too much
Or keep my faith boxed up, Locked up inside
If I let it out, I know you'll see a different side of me

Chorus
I've been living this way so long
I've been living this way so long
For my dream,
my dream....
my dream

Verse 2
I'm just a little unacceptable
Just a little unbelievable
And a little bit predictable

So I hold back
I live and I live too much
I show and I tell too much
Disappoint myself just every day
Along the journey I think I might have lost my way

Chorus

Bridge
The truth is hard to hide from
And lies are hard to run from
As I try to find freedom
the truth is hard to hide from
And lies are hard to run from
I know what I have be-come

Verse 3
I'm just a little inconsolable
A little irresponsible
A little bit delusional

chorus
Track Name: As Long As
Verse 1
Everybody tries to tell somebody
That they're your best friend alive
Just like a suicide bomber
There's no way you can survive
But if someone pulls the trigger
I'll stand in and take the pain
and if it pours outside
I'll be ur umbrella in the rain

Chorus
As long as I am livin
(I wanna be a good friend)
As long as I'm alive
(I wanna be a good friend)
I will be your shoulder
(I wanna be a good friend)
I will be right by your side

(Saw that comin)

V2
if you, ever get stranded
If you're ever left and high and dry
Don't ever, hesitate to call
I'll be there in a blink of an eye
So hold on, look up, chill out, cheer up
Everything going be fine
And even if it doesn't work out
I'll help you have peace of mind

Chorus
Track Name: Don't Get Too Close (To Me)
Bartenders, in every state, know my name
I sit down and they know just what I need
A shot and a beer will do for now
I'll need some more when you turn around
just give me a moment I know you don't wanna
but I wanna make somethin clear

Don't get to close to me
I'm not the man that I was supposed to be
Don't get to close, you'll see
maybe you should listen

I've known some ladies, they know who they are
I didn't mean to do those things that I did
Ask and I'll tell you, though I'm ashamed
I'll apologize and maybe clear my name
Just give me a moment I know you don't wanna
but my apology this time is sincere

Don't get to close to me
I'm not the man that I was supposed to be
Don't get to close, you'll see
Maybe you should listen

I used to have some friends, but they're all gone
I guess they lost the time to deal with me
With my problems with drinkin, lies and shame
My family issues tryin to, find fame
Just give them a moment they'll tell you don't believe it,
anything that you see in me

Chorus - 2x
